Marketing Manager – NorthOne
We make small businesses more successful through better banking.
Our company is looking for a Marketing Manager to join our growing team as we enter a new phase of expansion. We are a Toronto-based, venture-backed, early-stage startup at the heart of the FinTech movement that is shaping the way financial services are delivered.
Our company’s purpose is to eliminate the pain that small business owners face through their financial management and banking. To achieve this, we’re re-imaging business banking from the ground up.
NorthOne is building a mobile-first, API-enabled banking platform serving startups and small and medium-sized business (SMBs). Poor financial literacy has an outsized impact on the costs and failure rates amongst SMBs, and we are on a mission to eliminate these problems. We are more than a banking platform, we are the world class Finance Department that SMBs could never afford.
We’ve already had 6,000 small businesses, startups and freelancers request a NorthOne account! To put our money (and time) where our mouth is, we’ve dedicated hundreds of hours to conduct over 300 user interviews and have developed a deep understanding of our customer-base.
We ❤ marketing. We are all about brand, metrics, and KPIs. That’s why when it comes to marketing, everybody plays a part in the orchestra. That’s why you’ll have an opportunity to collaborate and will always be supported by everybody at the company. You’ll also benefit from our experienced leadership and incredible advisors. Is this sounding like home yet?
Today you might be a Marketing Manager, Marketing Specialist, Marketing Director, or the equivalent in your company…or something that we haven’t heard of yet – we keep an open mind.
The most important characteristic for our Marketing Manager is your attitude. We want you to join because you don’t see roadblocks, you see opportunities to be at your best.
This attitude will make you successful on our team (note that this comes before all else):
+ You love metrics driven organic marketing: You understand how to build and deploy a content and social media strategy that performs.
+ You get your hands dirty: You can develop a brand story, brand position, and brand voice but also do the heavy lifting to execute it yourself.
+ You create buzz: You know how to get journalists excited about something. You love creating stories and pitching.
+ You make advocates: You understand how to build a brand that people love – and how to create a community around it.
The skills that will make you successful in this role:
Getting things done as a marketing expert:
+ Required: Distinctive copywriting and blogging skills, mastery of creating and executing a high powered content strategy, expert knowledge social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Reddit), you’ve built ( or have been part of a team that has built) an AMAZING consumer-facing brand, experience pitching early and growth stage startups to top tier press (bonus points if you have a network of press contacts), deep understanding of SEO, email marketing (MailChimp).
+ Nice to have: You’ve built a community of advocates around a brand and understand what it takes to create and grow a community, you know how to engage with digital communities like Reddit and Quora and share a message with them without sounding spammy.
+ Getting things done yourself: You can be an army of one. Sure you can manage people and partners but you don’t need a support staff to get stuff done.
+ Getting things done with style: You know how to build a brand that customers love and communicate that across every touchpoint in the customer journey.
Experiences and stories you can tell us around the campfire:
+ Helped grow a customer base from 0 to scale
+ Created and launched a home-run campaign with +10x ROI
+ Wrote articles for well known marketing/growth publications or gave a presentation at a world-class conference
Few people have been trained for this sort of role. If you are even close to what we’ve described, but aren’t sure, apply. Let’s figure out together if this is where you could shine.
Our mission is big and audacious, but we’re assembling a team to take the challenge head on.
As a Marketing Manager, you’ll be joining a team that prioritizes:
+ People: Our company is more than just a business. We’re a band of brothers and sisters supporting each other on our mission to rebuild business banking. We’re really serious about mission, fit, and the people we work with.
+ Diversity: You’ll find yourself in an environment that values diversity and inclusivity. Excellence doesn’t come in one flavour and neither should we.
+ Growth: You’ll be building a growth machine that puts out the right messaging, on the right channels, at the right time. You’ll be scaling a banking brand from the ground up, and will have a major role in shaping the NorthOne brand.
+ Leadership: You’re right in the thick of it, making critical decisions that will clear our path forward. You’re a blend of David Ogilvy, Emily Weiss, and Reid Hoffman.
We offer full health/dental benefits, competitive compensation/equity, and one hell of an adventure.
