Your Guide to the Best Digital Marketing Tools: 5 Best WordPress Hosting Companies

5 Best WordPress Hosting Companies

There are a lot of WordPress hosts out on the market. Over our 9 years in business (and our founder’s 11 years building on WordPress), we’ve seen a lot come and go. And we’ve used many of them.

These are the hosts we’ve used over the years and still recommend (there are ones we do not recommend and they are not listed here).

Best Premium Host: Kinsta

Kinsta is my hosting tool of choice. I’ve used various others over time, including some other managed WordPress hosts, but Kinsta is our tool of choice to keep Credo running quickly and avoiding downtime.

Kinsta gives you 24/7 support, staging environments, cache control, easy SSL setup, and so much more. They are a great deal if you are looking for a combination of number of installs and traffic. Plus, they specialize in WordPress so if you care about a host that is optimized for WordPress then Kinsta is our recommended best option.

Second Best Premium Host: WP Engine

WP Engine is another solid choice in the premium hosting WordPress world. WP Engine is trusted the world over and owns Flywheel as well (which we’ve used and do not recommend), and we were on them happily for a few years before Credo’s business partner recommended we move to Kinsta in 2019 (and we did).

WP Engine’s support is top notch and their pricing is very fair in the premium hosting world. If you run a site that needs a lot of threads (because it has a lot of custom things going on) you may run into issues, but if you’re simply looking for a fairly priced WordPress host that allows your site to load fast, have a serious look at WP Engine.

A Third Premium Option: Nexcess

Nexcess, a Liquid Web brand, is one of the lesser know premium WordPress (and Magento and WooCommerce) fully managed hosting brands.

They set themselves apart by offering more technical options for those who need it, with great uptime and speed metrics that rival the leaders. They also offer some great tools like an easy WooCommerce store builder that can make your life a lot easier.

Best For Building A Hosting Business: GridPane

GridPane is serious self-managed WordPress hosting for WordPress agencies who are serious about their hosting business. Seriously.

In all seriousness (oh boy), GridPane allows you to create and manage your own enterprise-capable servers and build your own WordPress hosting business. They offer lightning fast performance with real experts on call 24-7, because they know that if your client websites go down you could be in real trouble.

Best Shared Hosting: Bluehost

Bluehost is cheap shared WordPress hosting that starts at $2.95 per month (on a 12 month contract). For those running multiple WordPress sites, it’s just $5.45/mo on a 12 month contract.

Shared hosting is great if you run a hobby site or two and you’re not overly concerned about site speed and can deal with a little bit of downtime from time to time. We started on shared hosting and were on it happily for years until our traffic levels and performance needs made it make sense to switch to premium WordPress hosting.
